I bought a used 1.33 15" PB about two weeks ago, got it late last week, and am just getting around to checking it out. 10's a big difference from 9.1 (to say nothing of the upgrade from a 6400). Anyway, the sytem's got the previous owner's information in it - all her settings, etc. I emailed her for her password (haven't heard back yet), but then I thought it might be better to simply clean install from the system disks and start w/ a fresh drive. There's nothing on the machine I need that I don't have backed up already; is there any reason not to proceed w/ a clean install?

but is it better/faster than the dual coreG5?
There is no real way to know how it will stack up against the G5 as it has not been released yet only engineering sample. Be patient and we will all see how it performs.

Transfer speed is also something to consider if you will be routinely moving large amounts of data. You said you have a Macbook, but is it the standard model or the Pro model. A standard Macbook only has USB 2.0, but the Pro models will offer FW.
Edit: For clarification, if you do have a standard Macbook, some of the older models did come with a FW400 port, but the current unibody plastic model does not offer one.

I'm brand new to animation. I want a program that I can easily create a visual for story lines with characters without the hassle/knowdledge of how to create characters/environment from scratch.
I read that Poser 2010 Pro has a large library of characters environments compared to Poser 8. The price tag is expensive and want to check on anyone's experience with the two or some other program. Thanks in advance.
Did I post this in the right forum?

You know how at technology expos they show future hardware for companies sometimes 5- 10 years down the road... Just wondering if apple does this at all, and has demoed any pimped out machines such as a future Powerbook G4.
As a side note, why is apple so tight about their products. Why not get people interested in their product at least a month before it is going to be released, so people can hype it up and drool over it?

I have to admit, I've been an adament PC user for a very long time, ever since the days of Windows 3.X. As a kid I always wanted a mac, but I ended up with a Pentium 120 MHz instead. Since then, I've steadily made my own PCs, but recently at my IT support job at college I had my choice of computers to use, and I chose an old G4 Cube. Upon getting a two-button mouse, I have to admit OS X has been a joy to use, and an ease with X11 and my engineering classes.
As I see it, Windows is headed in the wrong direction. Windows XP is solid and crash resistant, but with the hassle of a registry and the complication of uninstalling some applications, its not a smooth experience... especially when you have semi-annual formattings to maintain proper speed. The amazing thing I've found in the mac world is that operating systems actually improve speed and performance. This may not be true in the future thanks to the G5, but its still amazing none-the-less.
With this said, I just purchased a 1.8 GHz G5 powermac with a Radeon 9600. I'm sure it will be a world of improvement over the cube I'm use to, once I actually receive it. I was very impressed by the simplicity of my iPod... so I hope my experience will be just as good with the tower. I still find it ironic that I'll be using a Microsoft mouse and keyboard since Apple won't make two-button mice or ergonomic keyboards ... but I guess I'll just have to live with that.
Now to find some equivalent speakers to the Apple Pro Speakers and I'll be happy...

Hey guys,
Have a 2011 i5 with upgraded 8GB of RAM and Optibay'd SSD with a 1TB in the HDD bay.
I've noticed some problems over the past few weeks that mostly involve the screen and am not sure if they are related. First, is gray boxes inside the twitter app. It's hard to describe, but I grabbed a screenshot and it looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/8AGbP.png
This only happens in the twitter app, and usually flickers while scrolling. It also doesn't happen all of the time just occasionally.
On to the second problem. This one I can not get a screen shot of and it has only happened twice (and rather randomly). The entire screen has gray lines (horizontal) and there are also green and maybe red, though I don't remember if the red were there. When this happens, the only way to solve the problem is to hard reboot it as everything becomes frozen.
Another problem, which may be unrelated is a kernel panic. I have had only one, and it was after I rebooted from the second problem.
It's hard to search for what these problems are as I'm not too sure how to describe them, but I am concerned it could be a logic board problem. Could anyone shed some light on this?

Hi everybody,
Some time ago, my Powermac Dual G5 2.7Ghz started to have some problems. It seems like there is a problem with one of the processors.
Now i have the posibility to buy a powermac G5 2.5 DP quad core with a broken powersupply.
Is the powersupply of my broken G5 2.7 the same as in the the 2.5 quad core? Is it possible to build over?
Hope you guys understand my question, english isn't to good :)
Kind regards,
en thx in advance,
Floris

I would except I threw away the reciept and packaging a while ago. I'll just continue using this one until I can find a good deal on a better one.

I have been battling in my mind as to which Mac to get. Portability would be nice (aka powerbook), but it comes at a hefty cost. My major in college is Media Arts and Design and I will be doing a lot of digital video stuff. They recommend you to have a mac and Final Cut Pro. Would an iMac G5 be good for this? How are the innards different than the powerbook or powermac?
Please only post if you know what you are saying...ie no "well I don't see why the iMac wouldn't be fine for you" blah blah.. Thanks in advance :)

Hey
Yes were using AFP and no were using the POSIX on OSX on the volumes
but once your in the share points permissions there mixed both with ACL and POSIX could this be an issue?
(not sure if this helps) also we have to main groups and both users that are having the issue are in both groups "group a" is under ACL and "group b" is under POSIX could they be conflicting in any way? and all permissions are read and write
hope this helps!?
