I upgraded to 10.5 + iLife 08 on it although the restore discs are 10.4/06.
If you're selling it upgraded, you've gotta include the discs for 10.5 and iLife '08. If you don't have them or don't want to get rid of them, you'll have to have Tiger and iLife '06 installed.

Hi,
I have a white Macbook from a few years back - the A1181 (http://www.ifixit.com/Info/ID-your-Mac/406) according to iFixit and want to upgrade the hard drive to accomodate more space.
I'm quite happy fitting it and cloning my old drive but want to make sure i order a compatible drive. I've been looking at this
http://www.dabs.com/products/western-digital-320gb-scorpioblue-sata-300-5400rpm-8mb-6MG2.html?q=320gb%20SATA%202.5%205400
Can anyone tell me if it'll work in my macbook?
Thanks
Mark

Your link is dead and try including a little blurb about the article, just having a title and a link looks far too much like spam
EDIT: Link is now live again, weird.

It's "can't be arsed" to do something, not "arsed into". Slightly less rude. My children say it all the time. And it's "colloquial", not "Colloquiual"....
Ahhhh, thanks for the clarification. And I guess I need a spell checker in the title bar too! ;) :o

I'm working on adding some audio samples to some online language lessons. How I want it to function is pretty straightforward: At the end of each line of foreign text the'll be a little "play" button of some sort, and clicking on it plays the audio file in question.
I know there are a dozen different ways to do this, but what I'm wondering is, what y'all think is the *best* way. My first draft is using the method laid out on this page (http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2005/02/23/mp3_embed.html), basically an Object tag wrapped around an embed tag with the size set just big enough to allow the QuickTime (or WMP) "play" button, 16x17 pixels in the former.
That looks fine, plays fine with QT, but has two issues:
One (major), if QT isn't installed IE resorts to WMP, but since later versions apparently respect the dimensions of the EMBED tag, the controller is too small to see the play button (curse WMP's gigantic interface!).
Two (minor), this method preloads everything with the page. This is nice from an "insta-play" standpoint, but may bog down modem users and will also hammer on the server pretty hard if the site gets popular for some bizarre reason (~20K clips X ~15 clips per page = 300K/page, which'll add up quick with multiple pages per lesson).
So is this the best I'm going to do? Is there a trickier, more compatible way to do it? Should I just require QuickTime and be done with it (that'd also let me improve quality a bit by going with AAC instead of MP3, which is tempting)? Should I go with a bunch of QT streaming files, or is that silly for 3-second sound clips?
Thoughts?

I've been out of the loop... I was running DDR3 1600 on a Core i7 920 seems like years ago. That official support was 1066 I think.
The official limit was a response to why Apple is using 1333MHz instead of 1600MHz. It has always been possible to run higher clocked RAM with certain CPUs and chipsets.

Hello all
I am new to the forum , so please excuse me if I am making nay mistakes.
I have a problem with a pdf file that was sent to me by a business associate last night.
The email sent contained a pdf file that when I try and open it it freezes my system and brings on the dreaded spinning ball for ever, to resolve this i have to turn my mac off and on again.
If I try and highlight the pdf file in documents , again the spinning wheel shows up and again I have to turn off and on again.
The file needs to be deleted, but how do I do this if I cant even get near to it before my systems freezes and the spinning wheel shows up.
It is now affecting all my system.
I am desperate for help as have approached apple support but they cant help
Hope to get a reply
Thanks

Also, iMovie for iPad won't import/edit AVCHD video as from the HF200. It will only import video if it is stored in the DCIM folder, as videos from a digital still camera do. (Yeah, I was hoping to use my iPad as an ultra-light simple video editor, too.)

Try this--
Boot the iMac, and hold down command-option-P-R all at the same time (quickly), it will chime again, let it chime a few times (some say 2, some say 6)... See if that clears this up...

I've seen the processors in my dual 1.8 PM go up to 80 degrees C. 60 is nothing. I'd give Apple a call. If you have purchased Applecare they will come out to your house and fix it. (you have to ask for that part)

Otterbox Defender and iSkin Revo are the only two that come with built in protectors. There is the LifeProof case (not released yet) that also has a built in protector and is waterproof too.

although i may get beat up for it, I think it is pretty cool. Like said before though, it is more for girls. Don't really see a guy wanting to buy it.

well for the music there are many programs out there. (senuti I think) But for the apps you are going to have download those on your new air. If you want to keep all app settings I think there is a way to use an earlier backup but I don't remember how to do that.
To get you apps off the phone and into the "new" iTunes, connect your phone to iTunes, right click on your device in the left pane, and select "Download Purchases". That will transfer your apps and app data to iTunes.

i was in a very similar situation as you, and ended up getting the MBA and very soon i'll be getting the 27 inch imac. personally. it depends on whether you want 1 system or 2. personally, i didn't mind having 2 machines (transferring things between them every day or so), and got both of them. having just the 15 inch mbp and the cinema display limits your gaming performance, and the macbook air is a very capable product. i'd spring for the 128gb, 1.86ghz, 4gb ram mba, and wait till the imacs are refreshed in a month or so. i'll be getting the lowest end 'bigger screened' imac.
nothing compares to 27 inches of screen real estate... ;)

When you say a few dead pixels, how many is there. I am very interested in this but would really like to see pictures of it. Would you sell it without the adapter, I dont need it.
my issue is it is already tied down with another comp that only my mom uses for the most part, and i wanted to find out how much it is worth if i were to get her to let go of it.

hey guys. I searched around and couldn't find a post with this.
My xbox360 just died yesterday.. and since PSN is still down.. I want to watch netflix on my tv. I have the 2011 MBP.. and the HDMI adaptor. I can get video and audio to my tv without a problem. Now, is there anyway to make the output to 16:9 for my tv? When I made netflix full screen.. it cut off top part of Safari.. and the bottom part.
Any answers?
Also... Does the refresh rate need to be on any particular setting?
Thanks guys!

arn't they the same company who kept showing a rendered picture of something resembling a 1950's style mike and a radiator, constantly promising a 1Ghz G4 when all apple could offer was 500Mhz and then they released some half arsed overclocking device that was no more than a few jumpers and an instruction book or something ?
Seems funny they would make a typo like that :D

whats a good SSD drive brand
I've had great luck with my Other World Computing drive. Especially with the most recent firmware update that fixed the issues with freezing upon wake. The company makes their drives themselves, and have terrific support. Here (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/Mercury_Extreme_SSD_Sandforce)is a link to their website. I too hated the idea of installing the drive. I had it done by a local Apple Reseller who is also a certified repair center. That might be your best bet. I was charged $35 for the install.

did you wait 6 hours? Q and A says up to 6 hours wait for stats to appear. I'll wait on my site, just added and see what happens. the stats look nice however, GUI that is, still the same old stats collector it seems (js).
btw your site activity does say it's loading the 1 by 1 px gif and the js from google. also 404 on http://paulasaur.us/textpattern/ext/livearchive.js just thought you would like to know.

It's not uncommon for LCD monitors to have a dead pixel... having one dead pixel does not mean that there will be others, though. That one pixel is defective (either it doesn't work, or it's stuck ON). Since each pixel on the screen uses three color elements, the problem may be with just one of the three elements... or it could be all three.
If this problem is occurring on a new out of the box monitor, and if it bothers you enough to want to try to do something about it, you can contact your vendor and see if they'll replace the monitor. However, they may want you to pay the return shipping, and there's no guarantee that the new monitor won't also have a dead pixel or two. (CDW let me exchange a Sony LCD with a blown pixel several years ago. They were very nice about it, and I still have the replacement monitor they sent me. FWIW, my other Sony, a 23" LCD, has no problems at all.)
A lot of vendors require a large (10 or more) number of pixels to be defective before they will regard the monitor as defective, so you may not have any options other than to try to ignore it.
