Hey I noticed that on some threads after peoples reply there is a line then it will say all the computers, ipods, iphones etc. that they own or it will just say some random comment like its ipod touch not itouch. I was wondering how you get this becasue it looks like people can set it to automatically do this after all there posts.

This is a perfectly good place to ask that question. I haven't done any network programming for OSX myself but a quick look in the cocoa book I have points to NSFILEHANDLE and NSSTREAM as the two classes you might need. Looking over at the apple documentation gives two pages that will probably point you in the right direction.

A good rule-of-thumb for TM backup space is 2x your source drive (or, at least how much of it you tend to fill). So, in your case that would be 320GB. You could create that size partition, then leave the rest of the 500 available for other things.
If Time Machine doesn't have a partition assigned for backup, as soon as it's mounted, TM will as if you want to use it for backup. Then, select the 320GB partition (or, if nit doesn't ask, just go to System Preferences > Time Machine and select it. Also, if you things that don't need to be backed up, you can use the TM Options so exclude them.
As for partitioning your external drive, use Utilities > Disk Utility. Select your drive (not it's partition), then the Partition tab. Tell it to create 2 partitions, then you can eiher drag the divider to change their size, or type in the desired size. Select Mac OS Extended (journaled) for the format. Click on Options and make sure to select GUID as the partition map.

I have Fusion 3 (via bootcamp) and housemate has Parallels (don't know what version). He wasn't happy with Parallels, but It also has gone through a number of revisions since. All the reviews say they are pretty much neck and neck for performance. It's just a choice of preference in the interface.
any experience running playon with either one of those? its a streming client with tons of channels, i ask because i am looking at running one of them in order to stream playon!
thanks

Same problem, and DFU mode did squad.
EDIT: Solved it, was a stupid "error code 1013" (so friggen tired right now I kept seeing 3101, good luck finding a fix for that). Had to delete some stuff from the host file and it worked.
Windows:
Step 1. Start –> Programs –> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad
Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
Step 5. In "files of type:" select all documents
Step 6. Open "hosts"
Step 7. Delete all line that has "gs.apple.com" or something like that
Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device
Got the fix from: http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-itunes-error-1013-when-updating-iphone-4-to-ios-4.2.1/

Thanks for the reply - I swapped it out about a week ago.
Mac Pro, Mac Mini, both NAS drives and airport extreme have been rebooted several times.
I've renewed the DHCP lease on the mini already but to no avail.
Thanks

So inside Objective-C actions I can use C++ methods or no?
Yes, you can. You will need an Objective-C method to receive the action, but it can simply be a thin layer around a call to a C++ method (on, say, a C++ object that is an ivar of your Objective-C class).

I have a website that I created in iWeb. It is mainly a homepage with info and some links, the rest is a "My Albums" page with a bunch of albums full of pictures. The pics are taking up almost 1GB of space.
What I would like to do is get the pictures off my main website I created in iWeb so the domain file is smaller and I am not working with all these pictures every time I open iWeb.
My site is hosted at godaddy.com, but I was thinking of maybe putting the pictures on MobileMe or Flickr. What is a good way to have these pictures somewhere that I can easily link to them from my website and make it easy for people to view/download them?

My sister cracked her screen and ordered a new one from Ebay with the tools. Unluckily for me it had a phillips and flat-head but no pentalobe. I took a metal file and filed the width of the flat-head on both sides a little at a time and also took a little off the thickness. It now works wonderfully on the 2 pentalobe screws and actually works better on the phillips screws than the phillips screwdriver in the kit. Basically it's just a really small flat-head.

I have had this happen to me before. Before you go through the downgrading process, just go to the appstore on the iPhone and download any random app. For some reason, installing a new app fixes all the others and they open correctly. Hope this works for you!

Nope, sorry. Snow Leopard is Intel only.
I got it,not possible.:( thank you.
Your G5, as stated, pretty much maxes out at 10.5.8. You can try running a Linux distro on it, if you really need to, once Leopard's support completely ends. Leopard is still rather usable for most things, though, so keep that G5 around! After all, people still use Tiger after its official support has completely ended
If you absolutely need Snow Leopard, though, I'd advise looking at some older used Intel machines. Just make sure it's at least a Core 2 machine - the Core series is officially being dropped from Lion. (though I'm sure something like XPostFacto will surface for it...)
ok or it could be 10.5.9, thank you. :apple:

If you need any specific screws for your Aluminum PB I probably have them. I ended up having to buy a whole set for my PB just for 5-10 missing screws, therefore I have random ones sitting in a bag that I can ship out. I was somewhat miffed that no one really sold single screws for these computers...
$2.50 shipped per screw.
I'll take off significant amounts for multiple screws :).

Figure I'd post it here since it seems mostly related to webdesign, but feel free to move it if it's of more general interest.
Some might think this obvious, but british researchers have found that men and woman have different preferences when it comes to webdesign.
Don't belive it's mentioned in any of the linked pages, but there was a similar study in France and Poland, with similar results.
There's also been a study of websites related to Beauty products and Sports fishing. 77% of the Sports fishing websites were designed by men. More interesting, perhaps, considering the recent research, is that 78% of the Beauty products websites where also designed by men.
Maybe the ones who make Beauty product should consider hiring more female webdesigners?
I'm not aware of the male:female ratio of designers, so whould this be a problem?
Link: Press release (http://www.glam.ac.uk/news/releases/003056.php)
Link: BBC Article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4740173.stm)
As far as I know, there's a much higher ratio of men to women in web design, but it'd be interesting to find out an actual statistic (but, like most statistics, it wouldn't be a real accurate representation of the field because of the prominence of amateur/professionals in the field). It's an interesting study though.

First of all, don't get your head in a spin about viruses. Get a good anti-virus for Windows 7 and use common sense online and you should be fine.
If your Windows OS does get a virus your Mac OS should be fine. There is little malware for Mac, and no viruses (using a strict definition). Viruses don't tend to break the hardware on a computer!

Google "little app factory"
Download iRip 2
That app will allow you to copy all songs off your iPod onto your new machine. Once the music is on your new machine you can add it to iTunes. Then sync your iPod to the new machine. iTunes will prompt you to erase the iPod, go for it, because all the music is already on the machine. You can new music as well.

Hmm. Although this is for setting up with a wireless MM and/or keyboard, see if this helps. Good luck and keep us posted.
While you are in Windows.
1) Switch off the device you want to pair
2) Select "add a device" in the Bluetooth menu
3) Switch on the device (after few second it should get detected by windows)
4) Now, right click on the device and select properties. You should now get a window with the different services.
5) select the HID drivers for keyboard and mice and click OK (this is the important part)
6a) In windows 7 it should setup mouse and keyboard without any additional input.
I found that cure posted by S_ Eye at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057008&start=0&tstart=0
