I dedicate 7CPUS at 100% all the time in 10.5.5 (none of that background malarkey) ;) - I keep one CPU for OS and stuff and only shut Seti off when I need more horsepower

I bought a refurb 27" 2.8 i5 Quad Core, 4GB, ATI Radeon HD 5750, 1GB memory in the last month. I called Apple yesterday asking if I could swap it out for one of the new models and they gave me the ok. So now I'm looking at the base 27" 2.7 i5 Quad Core, 4GB, AMD Radeon HD 6770M, 512MB.
Is there going to be a major difference between the two video cards? I'm not sure how much better the 6670M is than the 5750. Dropping half the memory sounds like it could take a hit in performance. I was thinking of jumping up to the 27" 3.1 i5 Quad Core, 4GB, AMD Radeon 6970M 1GB, but I'd rather spend the cash on a 2TB HDD instead since I've almost maxed out my 1TB.
I'm not a heavy gamer. Mostly Civ V, Starcraft, Diablo III when it hits and the Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic MMO via bootcamp when it releases. I'll probably throw in a few other titles here and there as well. Other then that I use handbrake a lot, Pages, and iTunes to stream to my AppleTV 2. I also do some minimal video editing on it as well.

I have my PC and my Mac networked (sort of) via a D-link wireless router. I honestly don't even know how I did this but somehow I got them to talk to each other. Anyway my problem is this: I can connect to my PC through my mac anytime no problem, but when I want to access my Mac through my PC, I have to go through an elaborate process of bringing up the PC on my Mac trying to copy a file onto the PC and getting denied access, then going back to the PC where I can now access my Mac. It really sucks going through this every time so if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

FCP reported that it could't export MPEG2 cos DVDSP wasn't authorised the other day, I launched DVDSP and the problem vanished.
Are you using the MPEG componant for OSX or the one that gets installed with DVDSP?
I think the update is for the stand alone componant.
Just a thought, why don't you use Cleaner 6, it renders MPEG2 much better than QT but is slower (and more expensive)

Safari doesn't have full support for embedded scrolling layers. It just won't work in Safari unless you get crafty with some Javascript.

I'm looking at picking up a Mac Mini as a HTPC and dropping cable, but then I realized my 42" plasma only supports 1024x768 resolution.
I'm guessing this won't exactly be optimal, so I'm weighing whether to get a better tv. I don't really want to have to spend the extra money on a new set, so I'm hoping I could get some opinions as to how dismal the experience will be with my current set up.
Thanks!
Mac OS X is survivable at that resolution. After all, it wasn't that long ago that all Apple's 12" Portables shipped at that resolution (Including the PowerBook G4 12" and iBook 12" until Mid - 2006), however that is rather sub-optimal, especially if you want to view any widescreen content.

Thanks. Wasn't my best writing, but i'm going to do more in the future (NOT IN THIS FORUM, MAYBE SOME REMOTE LOCATION WHERE IT IS MORE APPROPRIATE!) As for an audio book, maybe....

Hi Guys,
I tried doing as much research before hand before having to post here, but I just couldn't figure it out. So my friends Mac's hard drive crashed and she didn't back up anything so she lost all her music. I told her that technically she could still pull her music off of her iPhone 4. I was able to do it once but it was with a Windows based computer and a different iPod maybe 3-4 years ago. I know iTunes has changed a lot then too.
So what I'm asking is how do you access the iPod's hidden files to reach the music folders? On my Mac, I can't seem to even find where the iPod is if I'm not in iTunes. I know you're suppose to enable the iPod as an external hard drive, but in the latest iTunes (iTunes 10) I don't even see the option for that.
My last question is if the iPod or iPhone is formatted to a Mac machine, is it still possible to be able to access the hidden files on a windows based computer? (Windows 7 or Vista)
I found some people talking about certain apps I could download that would do it, but those apps usually can't locate my iPod Touch. Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately the iPod touch cannot be used as an external hard drive since it has no open file-system. You could try an app like senuti, but I do not know if that works on iPod touches

there are already a gazillion threads on refresh. No one knows outside of Apple and the people that do know keep their mouths shut to avoid the wrath of management. Apple store people have no information either.

but need some tweaking.
Thanks for the pointing to fast user switching - will dig in this direction
Not graphical ones: Quartz basically only expects one active user at a time

Regarding the subject line, can this be done? The windows 98 computer is hard wired to the router and the printer, and the iBook is wireless. The router does not have any sort of print server. Can you print from the iBook to the printer straight up? Or would something like an aiport express need to be involved?
the answer is yes you can. i just searched the forums for a little bit, most of the instruction out there is for windows xp/2000. That means you can either google for instruction. The easiest way is to get a printer server. It doesn't have to be an airport express it can be a dlink or linksys etc as long as they support appletalk which I believe they both do. With a printer server, setup time will shorter (in theory) and once you retire you windows 98 computer your'll still be able to print from your iBook. online support for windows 98 i believe will stop around June maybe longer. There isn't security fixes or patches coming out for that operating system anyways. You put your computer and data at risk just having windows 98 on there because of the worm/virus threat.
