    Agreed.

Agreed also, also. I am suffering through the never ending wait for the Rev B MBP. Purchasing one of these iPods sounds like the same feeling one would have if purchasing the Yonah MBP today - good chance of regrets in the near future.

The stock market was not very impressed by SHOWTIME - it rose only 10 cents, and that was on a good day for the market with some analysts "upping" their rating on Apple.

I am starting to sense that Steve's "Reality Distortion Field" is not as effective as it used to be. Gonna ship iTV, downloads with LESS than dvd quality, outdated cpu in top of the line MBPs - we are not that impressed and neither was the market.

The only way that would happen would be for the phone to be GIVEN away at a price so LOW that nobody would refuse it. And it would have to include a data plan that costs practically nothing. And it would have to be contract free.

Oh, look! There is an ad below this for HTC Aria for just 1 - Free shipping - AT&T.

That's kind of where I was going... but businesses would switch from Blackberrys to Windows Phones. I wouldn't put it past MS to offer some sort of crazy business discount to get companies to change.

Well Folks, you all seem to be concerned about if your iPod 5G is outdated..
    ever thought about that?
If I got Steve right, no iPod that was sold prior to this very day will be able to play videos from the iTMS sold from this day on - not if Apple hasn't been lying VERY much about the H.264 decoding capabilities of the "old" iPod 5G.

I'd love to be corrected, though...You're wrong. Older 5g iPods can play the new tv shows and movies from the iTunes store. Lets not get ridiculous here.

Ahem. I was told that the iPod 5G can play H.264 with a resolution up to 320x240 and 768 kbps. Now the resolution gets quadrupled, and you suggest that it is ridiculous to assume that this does make a difference?

Sorry folks, but you act as if the Patent office was some kind of arbiter for what makes sense.

Who acts this way? It doesn't matter to this situation whether the current patent system is logical or sensible. We can all agree that it's run amok, but that changes nothing.

In a sense, yes. The rules for iPhone development are different than for Mac OS X.
Except in this case, they still didn't break the rules. Nothing in the SDK prohibits what they did. (Gruber's reply (http://daringfireball.net/2009/11/airfoil_touch_situation) to Jeff LaMarche sums it up very nicely — I know it's already been linked to be I think it needs repeating)

YES, Apple can reject an app for any reason they see fit. But this is getting ridiculous. I haven't cared about any of the apps made by developers that have so far jumped ship, but one of these days it is going to be one of the ones I care about, and I'm not looking forward to it.

What seriously kills me about all this is that those sensationalist chimpanzees from GP rally against a computer company that presently has roughly 6% (or less) of the computer market....almost every throw away computer I've ever seen were Compaqs, HP's, Dells, Gateways/e-Machines, and a few other generic crap boxes from some nameless plastic factory stuffing windoze in a toaster. Seriously, Greenpeace goofballs should stop stargazing up their rectums and take a look at the largest contributors of hardware refuse. Macs as far as I know are not easily tossed out. apple computers have been primarily hand me downs unless some terrible accident happened rendering it useless. seriously, no one throws away a functioning mac, unless they decided lead paint makes for good breakfast cereal.

How many of these sap-chugging numbskulls go after Dell for making computers that generally end up being sidewalk fodder? perhaps they should invest their energies into designing the green computer, since they seem to have so much gloriously skilled scientists at their disposal to expose the evil apple. Go team planet!

    yeah, Team Planet.

If it really mattered the chain would be broken at the top of the pyramid, instead they just farm us for every last cent in our pockets.

They quote facts as if they actually believe that people are 'that stupid', it becomes a stumbling block for their statistics. How many people give just 'yeah, whatever' answers to people collecting 'market research' because actually they are too busy to give an honest answer to an 'in reality' a very complex question.

If you ask stupid questions, you get stupid answers.

Popular science 'the GREEN movement' seems to thrive on a consensus of simple answers to very complex questions.

How much of our lives is now governed by a computer model that has trouble predicting tomorrows weather let alone the demise of the human race.

Oh spare me the guilt and the need to confess for my consumer driven instincts, will you forgive me and all the other 'sinners' if we pay for a whole new layer of religion to 'lord it' over our daily doings?

If you look on the fake apple site and look at the pictures, there are apple machines everywhere, how is that likely? About as likely as an apple turning up into some kids pram at a Mac Expo propaganda photo shoot.

Please greenpeace, if you have something to say, tell me the facts straight, otherwise I'm too busy paying my taxes for a work shy troop of pseudo scientists to go around telling me how much further bureaucracy will be required to save the world. (please do not mistake this for stupidity) (oh and get a job, preferably one that doesn't recycle other people's tax into more paranoid and privacy invading bureaucratic waste.)

I think the point that most people are trying to avoid is that at worse, there are too many people using too few resources and there's a whole lot of squawking 'chicken littles' who seem to think if we repent our sins that some how nature will not jump the artificial gap that has been built between us and our environment.

    You can't buck the market.

and before someone points out undeniables like the value of making better products for our environment, I say great, lets start this new found efficiency and exercise it top down.

I would gladly pay less tax for a more efficient government and spend the savings on more expensive products resulting from costs passed on to me by highly regulated manufacturers.

I will however, grow tired of paying for this never ending environmental 'gravy train'.

Perhaps, but the sooner man is extinguished from this planet the sooner the planet can recover to it's equilibrium.

    The truth kinda hurts.

As someone looking forward to buying my very first Mac desktop; I must say this is a pretty lame rumour. 'Sandy Bridge'? 'Thunderbolt'? Nothing surprising; everyone here was expecting these two items. I want more specific rumours!:p

    The wait continues...:(

The guy across the street who has a friend named Phil Jobs that works for Apple says it'll also be 'truly magical'

This sucks. Doues anyone know on what patent they infinged exactly?

This one (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060515-6838.html). It's U.S. Patent 6,928,433 if you want to look it up for yourself at uspto.gov (http://www.uspto.gov).

    How about this:

When you are born, you are given, in effect a serial number. which is yours as a human being for life.

When you buy any digital media, this is linked to our number for life.

This means for as long as you live, and whatever device you buy, you can access this media always.

So I buy and iPad and I pay for the "RIGHTS" to watch/own a movie.

I have paid my money and now that movie is mine to watch any time in the future on whatever device I buy in the future.

I doubt we'd see the MB first, since that really wouldn't make any sense.
Nothing Apple does lately makes any sense, with regards to quite updates etc.

This is the chip to use in a (stop gap) gamer machine, but it needs to be fully 64 bit for 4+ gig of RAM, 4 slots of non-buffered ram, support SLI, be user upgradable, multiple video cards inside, 2 disk drives (stripping mode), lots of USB and Firewire ports in a new enclosure.

    Just my opinion.
    :D

I just wonder what this will mean for storage space (SSD is expensive!) and for discrete graphics. The refresh can't be as thin as the Air itself if they want to keep room for a graphics chip.

"You mean like FW was faster than USB and USB2? And yes, it will work with any USB device. You think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? Really?"

^ You implying it will be DOA. For someone criticizing reading comprehension I sure have to do a lot of work for you.

Here's the gist of your worthless posts:
    Insult
    Insult
    Strawman argument
    Insult

    What a joke.

I was asking you what I thought would be an easy question for you to answer. I'll ask again, it will work with any USB device, do you think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? I'll wait.

And I've posted no strawman arguments. I didn't insult you either. It was an observation. Reading difficulty is a problem, sure, but it is a a challenge that many people face. I am hopeful that those with this limitation can better themselves perhaps by taking some courses. Dialog is always better with someone that understands and can follow the discussion.

To properly recap, I believe it could be a repeat of FW and it could end up being considered 'Mac only'. I know it is subtle difference from a claim it will be DOA (well, subtle like a baseball bat, I guess), but it shouldn't be this difficult for you to understand. You are really, truly, picking the wrong fight. I think we actually agree on a lot of points. I'd like it to succeed, but can see things that might be obstacles. You don't see those as obstacles or perhaps don't see them at all. But, really, stop arguing against things I never said.

LOL at everyone freaking out!! So Google can take pictures of your house, back garden, car etc and post them for the entire world to see without asking you first, Facebook would sell your soul for profit if it could, and your worried about Apple tracking your phone, most likely for it's Find My Phone feature? hahahaha.

I suggest the majority of you cancel all your services, never have an internet, car, bike, phone, anything, never leave your house, in fact don't have a house and live in a cardboard box, that way you may not need to worry about the way your personal information is handled without your knowledge! Then again you'll still be recorded somewhere and nearly every movement you make caught on a camera.

136 negatives to this story ... nice.

Any perceived hit towards censorship obviously trumps the value of human life.

should we ban email? I get mass emails on occasion from people at work notifying me of check points. Where does the censorship end "to save a life"?
