I hope Apple releases an iPod software update so those of us who already own 5th generation iPods can take advantage of all these new features.
Exactly what I'm hoping.. I bought my 5G like 3 weeks ago, the only real difference is the software, I don't use videos enough to notice the brighter screen.

What does he say about the coming New World Order that Bush and Obama keep talking about, and also the coming North American Union + Amero?
It's a bit early to be auditioning to be Trump's VP, no?

I was just about to post the same thing; the application says that it couldn't find the consolidated.db file. I even tried syncing my iPhone once more and it still didn't help. An interesting note though - I own a Verizon iPhone. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
You're right, they say that the Verizon CDMA phone doesn't keep the log.
Okay, then it's a log of GSM cells that the phone sees and/or connects to.
The question is, where does it get the location data from? Either the phone has a complete cell id database internally, or it's using GPS, or it has to go out on the network and ask Apple's cell id servers for the location.
The researchers claim neither GPS nor network data is being used, so there would have to be an internal database, which I've never heard of. Something is missing.

I don't think Core 2 Duo is realy all that much of a big deal for Apple in the grand scheme of things. It's a small speed bump, with 64 bit as a bonus extra.I think 31% Longer Battery Life, 20% more power at same speed, 4MB L2 cache, significantly cooler (http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=288&type=expert&pid=1) is a very big deal.I don't believe any of this. The intel MacBook Pros just came out, and the main advantage of the 2 Duo is it's socet compatible with it's predecessor. Why screw aroud with a proven design, when there's absolutely no need. You do that sort of thing when the chipset and whatnot changes and you have to redesign the internals anyway.MBP announced January 10 shipped February. Needs redesign to add the easy access HD Bay they put in MacBook in May. Whenever Apple adds a Pro feature to a consumer system it means the next pro system will have it too.Finaly, Merom whatnot are being very much overhyped. The main tech advancements for most users came with Core Duo. iMac and mac Mini prices dropped in the UK in the summer so when Core 2 Duo gets announced you can bet they'll be back up at the release price of the respective hardware platform (iMac, Mini, PBP, etc). Thus you will get more power, but you'll pay for it so bang for buck wise I realy don't think it will make a massive difference.PC Perspectives Editor's Choice Award: (http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=288&type=expert&pid=1) "We can now say without a doubt that Intel's latest mobile CPU has nailed the holy grail in mobile computing - it performs faster, consumes less power, and generates less heat. What else is there to say besides that?...
Not only that, it has technology improvements under the hood like a larger level 2 cache (4MB) and 64-bit extensions to support 64-bit OSes like the upcoming Windows Vista. If you've had reservations before about getting a laptop, the Core 2 Duo should have you convinced. Intel's track record in this arena is strong, and their latest CPU just solidifies their lead."
Read these charts and tell us how it won't make a big difference again:

And this is why I say it can go either way. The release of the C2D mac systems are not dependent upon the rebate IMO. It might happen or it might not. My guess is that Apple is not releasing their new computers based upon when the rebate ends. They'll simply release them, and if they happen to fall within the rebate period, that's not necessarily by design. But it is our good fortune. :)
i completely agree. this rebate has zero bearing on the new merom machines.

wake up then, because it won't happen for awhile.
The current enclosure is very nice, so why change it?
Hi gugy,
I agree with you: MBP are really nice, but.... the Macbook's keyboard design is simply gorgeous. Clean, with those rounded corners.
Not to mention the magnetic latch.
It would be a leap forward a better design. And a greater coherence through the entire -book line.
Bye!

As the story says: "A private armed security guard interrupted the burglars and at some point, gunfire was exchanged with the two male burglars, who were also armed, Facicci said."
The burglars were shooting at him also. So the security guard acting in self defense. It wasn't like they were unarmed and while they ran away he shot them.

Is anyone here educated enough to explain to me how to compile and run this thing?
I can't find a way to install avahi. Tried installing it via fink - no luck.
MacPorts requires xcode, but I don't really want to install xcode. takes up a lot of space.
Even though I know some things I'd still prefer if someone would make a step-by-step how-to for me.
Thank you in advance.

I stopped by my local Apple store and had a similar experience. Actually, it was a bit worse... they still had the old iMacs out and when I asked about the new ones, I was told "What new iMacs?"
Did you log into store.apple.com and show them? :D

Apple seems (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/21/apples-cloud-based-music-service-ready-to-go/) to be getting ready to launch their cloud-based digital music "locker" service that has been rumored for many months. But contrary to an earlier Reuters report, All Things D (http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/20110421/one-difference-between-apples-music-locker-and-amazons-label-deals/) has heard that Apple has already come to terms with two of the four major record labels about the service, and that Apple's Eddy Cue will be in New York tomorrow to try to finalize the remaining deals.
The negotiating of these deals is in contrast to Amazon's music storage service (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/29/amazon-launches-cloud-based-storage-service-and-music-player/) which notably launched last month without any deals in place -- a fact that the record labels were not very happy about (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/29/us-amazon-idUSTRE72S13H20110329). Apple is said to have been "very aggressive and thoughtful about it" and "It feels like they want to go pretty soon", according to an unnamed music executive. All Things D also provides some details about how the service might work from Apple:The industry executives I've talked to haven't seen Apple’s service themselves, but say they're aware of the broad strokes. The idea is that Apple will let users store songs they’ve purchased from its iTunes store, as well as others songs stored on their hard drives, and listen to them on multiple devices. All Things D points out that having official licenses can allow Apple to store a single master copy of a song rather than storing individual copies for every user. Amazon's original argument against needing the licenses was that their service was the same as any upload storage service. This meant that users needed to upload copies of their old music to be able to stream them. With the proper deals, Apple could avoid the need to upload individual copies and simply allow users to stream off of the single master copy. This could save on significant upload time for the user and storage requirements for Apple.

I personally think that this sux. The Cingular store here is a huge joke. You could walk in there and no one would even notice that you were there. They will sit there in their cell phones and talk, laugh and carry on with there personal life and not worry about making a new customer. Also there customer service, every time I dealt with them, was just horrid. I was a BellSouth/Cingular customer for almost 10 years and had billing problems at least 2 months out of the year. I would call in and explain to them the problem, the supervisor would look over it and tell me I will have a credit on my next bill. Well sometimes the next bill was 3 months down the road, is that how you deal with your customers? I think not.
I call up Verizon and tell them I have a problem, on last thursday, I talk to a supervisor and we get the issue worked out. She asked me when I would like my credit applied, as soon as possible or on my next billing cycle. I told her as soon as possible, I had my credit applied to my account saturday.
I know this got a off topic, but switching back to a crap company like Cingular is not in my future, no matter if they call me up and offer me a free iPhone to come back to them.

You know, I'm thinking people really want an iPhone. And I'm also thinking that they want it so bad they won't even consider the source of this information.
Usually, a rumor like this wouldn't get three pages of comments without somebody mentioning that this story comes from ThinkSecret. In case you're new here, MR readers have a habbit of panning ThinkSecret. It's worse than panning really, it's more like slaughtering any news that comes from ThinkSecret.
It's fun to watch members battle out mobile providers.

Been waiting to get one for a while now. :o
I do hope that the backlit keyboard comes to the 11.5 inch.
Bummed about Intel's graphics. I was hoping in some kind of settlement. :(
There was a settlement. Intel gave NVIDIA $1.5 billion to go away. Unfortunately, that means Intel integrated graphics for the foreseeable future.

I don't usually speculate, but I find it interesting "Showtime" is capitalized. Could the downloads be part of some partnership with the cable channel? Just wild speculation on my part.

...Maybe I can get a 500GB SSD in there by the time it's released, then I'll have all I want (for now).
I've had a 360GB SSD on order for my 11" MBA for about two months. At times, I've been told it would ship within 4 days; more recently, i was told it would ship by April 4. I suppose if it becomes available now I'll elect to wait til i can get the improved MBA and put the bigger SSD in it. It sure would be comforting if apple would offer those bigger drives as BTO. And I'd place a high premium on a lighted keyboard. Give me those things, and as you say, then I'd have all i want (for now).

So all Apple has to do is say Core 2 Duo. There will be no "Merom" or "Conroe" differentation.
It's dead easy to notice the difference... Conroe has a 1066MHz FSB. Merom has a 667MHz FSB.
