That is exactly what I envision for the next Mac Book Pro. Take a MacBook Air make it just thick enough to handle an additional 2.5" Hard Drive, dedicated graphics, and a high performance processor. Ditch the optical drive, make SSD+HD the standard configuration.
This!
Please do not make a MBP line with carbon fiber (sooo 2008!). It looked ok then but now I'm just sick of it. I truly believe Apple has other plans for their Liquidmetal purchase, my guess is for future battery tech as described a few months ago. The optical drive is finished. All signs point to Apple getting rid of it and the sooner they do so, the better. The only foreseeable problem with the OP's suggestion is cost. Given the MB Air's price point, what happens to the prices in the MBP line?

Awesome. I want a current MBA, but they're a tad too much right now. This will lower those prices.

100million to make a nagging itch go away? not bad and well worth it IMO.

Samsung running Android look very very similar to Apple's, to the point where it causes confusion in the marketplace for consumers. I've seen several people mistake one of these things for an iPhone because they look that similar. It's a combination of Google's Android and Samsung's hardware.
This confusion is no accident, that was the intent all along. There is no reason why they could not create their own look and feel... change it up enough so it's not an obvious copy. Other handset makers have been able to do that.

Sorry to crash the party, but it would seem a little strange for Apple to upgrade the MacBook and/or MB Pro's until sometime after the 16th when their current college promotion ends. Promotion = clearing out old stock (of notebooks & iPods).

Hello Mr. Condescending, and glad you could join us.
There are arguments agreeing with you and those that disagree with you for equally good reasons. It's been all over these boards for the last several weeks, so you're not telling anyone anything they haven't thought, said, heard, or argued for or against. While I can definitely see both sides to this worn debate, in all honestly, I have no idea when Apple will release the C2D systems. And neither do you (or do you? :o )
But hey! That's why were here. To speculate, argue, and spread wild rumors based on tiny grains of truth.

That's pretty quick but I thought there may have been a little more speed from the Core 2 Duos.

Are these enhancements in software, so my existing 5G iPod video will reap the benefits of games, gapless, movies, etc.?

Cingular service in my area sucks. I've been a happy t-mobile customer for almost 5 years. I am already happy with my Samsung t-809, and still don't know how I feel about device convergence.

Free speech was killed decades ago by every business along with every govts help. Green Peace agreed though to keep it in the booth, they didnt so they are to blame. This is a Mac expo not a tree huggers convention.

I'd love to save this quote and show it to you in a couple years... I bet you'll feel differently.
I am sure you can find that quote used plenty of times in the past about graphical UIs and touchscreens.

This really doesn't matter. Apple will update stuff tomorrow. Steve likes to wait for tuesdays cuz he's a rockstar like that. :D
Apple announced the Intel iMac and MBP like 5-7 days after Yonah was brought out at the begining of Jan. It'll be announced tomorrow (75%) or next Tuesday (25%), but no later than that.
If your right i'll give you hugs untill you can''t breath!

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.
Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
That's why I'm sticking with my 64bit G5 iMac ;)

But FW isn't mac only by choice or need. Abit, Asus, Gigabyte and others all offers boards with FW. It was a common feature for motherboard manufacturers for some time. Will TB be included in their low end boards? More then likely not but from mid tier to high end boards will have it.
Very true, but in the end, USB2 won out.

Technically I was only 20 over the limit (I'm in Michigan). Also, radar detectors are a great thing:)

Because that makes it safe.
A side note: It's under no circumstance appropriate to try to cause a wreck for someone driving slow. That's what causes road rage. Do it to the wrong person and you get killed. I would have just been nice and reported your plates to the police. I wouldn't have likely brake checked, but that's a different point.

136 negatives to this story ... nice.
Any perceived hit towards censorship obviously trumps the value of human life.
Yes. It actually does. Because without freedom, human life has no value.

Why so many negative votes?
Maybe because most manufacturers have started selling Core 2 Duo computers but Apple hasn't.

Just purchased the latest refresh of the MacBook Pro to replace a a 2006 model, and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I had a hunch the next refresh would be a case redesign, still no regrets.

I thought the 5G was already able to handle 640x480 movies, just couldn't display them at full resolution?
The way I understood, it was capable of playin that resolution in mp4, but not when using AVC/H.264...
